This special project was a whole home renovation for our clients’ in Cottesloe.
Located within The Mendips building – an art deco apartment building originally built in the 1930s – our aim was to transform it into a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary, retaining its original charm and seamlessly integrating modern design elements into the home.

We completely renovated the entry, living room, kitchen and dining room, two bathrooms, bedrooms and alfresco area.
The original detail and character of the home was retained by our meticulous approach to restoring the leadlight windows, ceiling plasterwork and fireplace.
We flooded the kitchen and dining space in natural light by installing Velux skylights and bi-fold doors to the backyard. Brick lintel beams were removed and the ceiling was raised to create an airy space with a clean, white colour palate.
To create an open floorplan, the kitchen entryway was widened and new oak flooring was laid down throughout the home. Timber architraves and skirtings were also custom made to match the originals.
Our work to the patio included lining existing timber in painted tongue and groove timber lining boards, with speakers and feature lighting installed to compliment the outdoor coastal retreat.
The two bathrooms were completely gutted and renovated with glass enclosed showers, floating vanities, back-lit mirrors and stunning tiling to create a more modern design.
In the master bedroom, we created stained leadlight glass windows to match the originals in the living room restored the plasterwork on the ceiling that is original to the home.

Our clients were Sydney-based which made it challenging as they were not available for site visits and the time difference also had an impact. We overcome this through clear, concise and regular communication. We ensured they were across every step in the process and sent daily progress updates and photos.

Another challenge we faced was a major delay in the delivery of exclusive custom lighting fixtures. They took five months to arrive. To ensure the rooms could still be used in the meantime, we installed temporary lighting until the permanent fixtures arrived.

The original timber floors were uneven, 30mm out in the kitchen / dining areas. To resolve this, we built up the floor in those areas to create a perfectly true floor, prior to the new oak floorboards being installed.

Bagged plaster walls in the lounge and entry were protected, so careful removal of skirting boards was required to ensure no damage to these areas. These walls could not be patched, as you will forever see the markings, so it was imperative this work was managed meticulously.

Our clients’ vision was understood and we successfully executed it to create their dream home.
The Scandi style is beautifully juxtaposed against some of the home’s traditional details and creates an effortless, contemporary aesthetic that works with the airy, light-filled design.
We succeeded in staying true to the original character whilst integrating modern design elements with the use of natural materials and capitalising on the orientation of the home.
In the bathrooms, we created a modern, spa-like feel and provided extra storage without interrupting the clean lines.
From the skylights and bi-fold doors that bathe the kitchen and dining room in natural light, to the waterfall benchtop on the island that extends to a kitchen table, to the substantial storage spaces, the integrated fridge and dishwasher, to the bench seat with reading light to the floors, to the speakers that are built into the ceiling which we raised to make the space feel as light and open as possible – every detail was carefully considered and executed.

To say we love our newly renovated home is an understatement. Adam has created the perfect sanctuary for us to relax and has given us our dream home.

Being based in a different State, we knew it was key to make sure we chose the right building company for the job.

Adam took a personal interest in this project and that really shone through. The level of service he provided and his exceptional communication made us feel comfortable and informed throughout the whole process.

Attention to detail was so important to maintain the older characteristics of the house and the work is flawless. The HIA Award wins can attest to that!

The work Adam did exceeded our expectations and we would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone looking to renovate or build.
